Quick Answer

Crafting in The Blood of Dawnwalker turns learned instructions and gathered ingredients into healing, stamina, melee, utility, and active-ability consumables. Recipes may be described as recipes, recipe items, or Manuals depending on the source; acquisition varies by item, so not every unlock should be described as the same kind of Manual.

Current community databases and guide lists contain 44 craftable recipes, but that is not an official total. Herbs and mushrooms are one ingredient layer within that wider system, while Anca’s prologue medicine is a separate quest answer: hot water plus three spoonfuls of herbs.

The normal loop is: discover or obtain a recipe / manual item, learn its instruction, gather the required plants, blood, creature parts, liquids, or reagents, and craft the resulting consumable. Exploration, loot, quest or progression rewards, and vendors all contribute recipes; the source is not identical for every one.

How Crafting Works

  1. Find a recipe or Manual through exploration, loot, quest / progression rewards, or vendors.
  2. Learn the instruction; recipe-item and Manual terminology is not completely consistent across guides and databases.
  3. Gather the listed ingredients, which can include plants, mushrooms, blood, creature parts, water, oils, spirits, and alchemical reagents.
  4. Craft the consumable and use it for the matching combat or utility need. Some recipes support human health and melee, while others support vampire health, claws, or powers.

Not every recipe has one identical acquisition method

It is safe to say that recipes are learned from recipe / Manual items, but not that every recipe always comes from a Manual in the same way. Check the specific recipe’s source when hunting one item.

The Five Recipe Categories

Every craftable recipe the community tracks falls into one of five categories. Knowing the category tells you what the item is for before you waste ingredients.

Recipe categories
CategoryWhat it gives youTypical use
HealthMending ointments, regenerative salves, vitality balms, and blood infusionsRestore or sustain health; separate lines serve human and vampiric health needs.
StaminaRevitalising tonics and vigour infusionsRestore or improve the stamina used by defence, movement, and sustained combat.
Enhanced MeleeFortitude pastes, claw vials, and keen-eye potionsImprove close combat, weapon or claw performance, and critical-oriented fighting.
UtilitiesFortitude balms, enemy-type bane brews, and Razkovniche ElixirSolve situational defence, enemy matchup, exploration, or survival problems.
Enhanced Active AbilitiesSharp Mind powders plus Aetheric and Vrakhiri attunementsStrengthen active witchcraft or vampiric abilities for a limited window.

Count is community-sourced

The "44 recipes" figure comes from the fan-run DawnwalkerDB. It is not an official recipe total, so treat it as approximate.

Herbs and Gathering

Herbs are ingredients, not recipes. Gather plants and mushrooms directly in the open world; no special tool or harvesting minigame is required, and Focus Mode can help reveal interactable objects. Simply walking over to collect a plant does not itself consume a story time segment.

Crafting plants and fungi include Ribwort Plantain, Common Yarrow, Comfrey, Yellow Sweet Clover, Aconite, Perilla, Tansy, Chanterelle, Green-Gilled Mushroom, Saffron Milk Cap, Slippery Jack, and Cave Fungus. They feed healing, blood, stamina, melee, and utility formulas rather than one generic "herb recipe."

Three different things can be called herbs

Keep Anca’s medicinal quest herbs, the optional Dried Herbs from Page-Turner, and ordinary gatherable crafting plants separate. Anca’s quest herb is not identified as Ribwort Plantain.

Anca’s "Recipe" — Not Crafting

During Withering Away, Anca gives Coen medicinal herbs and instructions for Esme’s medicine. When the brewing prompts appear, choose hot water (not boiling) and add three spoonfuls of herbs. Read Instructions from Anca beforehand because the full note is not shown again during the choice.

Don’t confuse the two

This is a quest-specific fixed choice sequence, not a consumable learned through the normal crafting menu. It also does not prove that Anca’s medicinal herbs are Ribwort Plantain.

Practical Crafting Priorities

  • Start with healing and stamina. Minor Mending Ointment is a useful early formula, while revitalising recipes protect the resource used for defence and sustained combat.
  • Gather during normal travel. Focus Mode makes plants easier to spot, and harvesting itself does not spend a story time segment.
  • Learn recipe / Manual items when found. Exploration, loot, rewards, and vendors all matter, so do not wait for a single universal unlock source.
  • Match buffs to the encounter. Use Enhanced Melee for weapon or claw pressure, Utilities for matchup problems, and Enhanced Active Abilities when a power drives the build.

FAQ

How many recipes are in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

The community-run DawnwalkerDB currently lists 44 craftable recipes. That is a fan-compiled figure, not an official total, so treat it as approximate.

What are the recipe categories?

Five: Health, Stamina, Enhanced Melee, Utilities, and Enhanced Active Abilities. Each groups items by what they buff or provide.

Is Anca’s recipe part of crafting?

No. During Withering Away, choose hot water and three spoonfuls of herbs. It is a quest-specific choice sequence, not an alchemy recipe learned and crafted through the normal system.

Are herbs and recipes the same thing?

No. Herbs and mushrooms are gatherable ingredients. Recipes are learned instructions that combine ingredients into consumable outcomes. Anca’s prologue medicine is a separate quest answer.

Where do I learn recipes?

Through recipe or Manual items found via exploration, loot, quest or progression rewards, and vendors. Exact terminology and acquisition vary, so not every recipe should be described as the same kind of Manual unlock.
