Quick Answer
You play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker — human by day, vampire by night — who has 30 days to save his family from Brencis, the vampire lord ruling Vale Sangora. Around them sit Coen’s family in Laslea Glen, the herbalist Anca, the conspirator Vladimir, and Brencis’s vampire clique.
Coen
The protagonist. Coen is a young man from Laslea Glen who is attacked and left for dead, then turned when his sister Lunka lets him drink her blood. The result is a Dawnwalker: not fully human, not entirely a vampire, carrying the strengths and weaknesses of both.
He was trained with a sword from a young age by his father. The central question the game asks is whether his soul is worth the lives of the people he loves — the story lets you pursue saving your family or swearing revenge on the one who turned you.
Coen’s Family
Saving the family is the stated goal of the 30-day window, and the prologue spends its time making each of them matter before taking them away.
| Character | Role in the opening hours |
|---|---|
| Lunka | Coen’s sister. Wanders into the forest at the start of the game; her blood is what turns Coen. |
| Esme | Coen’s mother. Ill and refusing to eat, she is the reason for the herb run to Anca and the centre of the blood mass scene. |
| Pieter | Coen’s father. Trains Coen in the duel and is drawn into Vladimir’s plan against Brencis. |
| Yanna | Coen’s sibling. Asks for help fishing at the stream, which opens the Live Bait quest. |
| Mirto | Coen’s youngest sibling. Sent with Yanna and Lunka to the river. |
The Vampire Court
Vale Sangora is ruled by a clique of vampires who overthrew the feudal lords after plague and war weakened the human population. They are called the Vrakhiri, and they drink the blood of the people they rule under what the church in Laslea calls a sacred covenant.
| Character | Key details |
|---|---|
| Brencis | The vampire lord ruling Vale Sangora. He presides over the blood mass, deems Esme weak, and is Coen’s sire and primary antagonist. |
| Vrakhiri Banneret | A vampire officer-class enemy encountered guarding Vladimir’s burning hut during Bad Blood. |
| Bakir | A vrakhir and one of Brencis’s lieutenants, known as the Mad Khan. He runs the Lunar Game — a timed, ability-stripped trial — and is tied to the Shadowstorm ability. |
The People of Laslea Glen
| Character | Key details |
|---|---|
| Anca | The herbalist who lives on the edge of the village. She supplies the medicine for Esme, teaches Coen Latin, and later teaches him the witchcraft ability Compel Soul. |
| Vladimir | A villager working with conspirators from outside the valley. He wants Coen to lead men back into the silver mines, and Coen later finds him trapped in his burning hut. |
| Father Florin | The priest who leads the blood mass at the Laslea church. |
| Vasil | A villager at the front of the church during the blood mass. |
| Gavril and Lazar | Brothers at the back of the church during the blood mass. |
| Ludwig | A man found trapped under a beam in the silver mines during Bad Blood. |
| Kostel | Found wounded in the mines during Bad Blood; the encounter reveals that Coen has turned. |
| Ursul | Unlocked as a Swordmastery trainer after Ambrus’s Prisoners: Lucky Crossing on Day 4. |
| Mert | The miller, Vlad’s cousin and a Manumit contact. A separate character from the romance candidates — not a romance option. |
Romance
There are three romance options: Anca, Lacra, and a third tied to the conspiracy, known as Crake or Marat. All three can be pursued in a single run — they are not mutually exclusive — and there is no approval meter and no gift system gating them.
Anca is the Laslea herbalist and is one of the three, not the only or canon-mandated love interest. Lacra is a vrakhir whose decisive romance quest is The Night of Horrors. The miller Mert is a separate character — Vlad’s cousin and a Manumit contact — and is not a romance option. For the full breakdown, see the romance guide.
